Fully electric minibuses shuttle visitors to an ecosanctuary at the heart of Wellington.
ZEALANDIA is an ecosanctuary in the heart of Wellington. It’s been Toitū carbonzero certified for several years.
In 2018, it launched the country's first fully electric passenger minibuses. They replaced a diesel-powered van used to shuttle visitors between the city and the sanctuary. Since then, the two minibuses have carried close to 40,000 passengers and travelled over 90,000km. They’ve successfully proven that electric vehicles work well for this use.
The minibuses also eliminate over 14 tonnes of emissions each year through less diesel use.
“Visitors have shown a real interest in the electric minibuses,” says Matt Valentine, Manager Corporate Services. “They're a great way for us to educate and show visitors how sustainable practices are helping to conserve the natural world.”
