Dunedin hairdressers use bright ideas to save on lighting.
Clip Joint Hairdressing is an eco salon in central Dunedin. In 2015, they moved into new premises to follow a dream of being more sustainable.
Good lighting is vital in any salon, but they knew they could use less. They encouraged staff to switch off lights when not needed, including in the bathroom. Easy-to-see light switches make this easy to remember. After the final cut of the day, all power switches go off. This means no electricity is wasted overnight.
The team also chose to upgrade to efficient LED bulbs. But they waited for the original bulbs to expire first. This seemed like the least wasteful approach.
“As a team, we’re very happy with the results,” says Loren Westhead, Co-owner and Senior Stylist. “We’re spending less time finding and changing bulbs. And we’re saving money on power. Plus, we love the quality of light, which makes our job so much easier.”
