Industry code and classification units

When you file your Inland Revenue tax return, make sure you select the correct Business Industry Code (BIC). It describes which industry you're in and is used by ACC to determine your Classification Unit (CU) and the levies you have to pay.

As long as you select the correct BIC, you and your staff will receive the correct cover if you're injured. You can find out your BIC by clicking the Learn more link.

CUs are used to group together business activities with similar risks of injury and help ACC to work out levy rates. The rates for each CU are based on the actual cost of injuries that have occurred in each group.
